Please don't take my picture!

Well, it's Saturday, but I did happen to snap a picture of Blur of Friday Cat Blogging, but he said, "Please don't take my picture!"

Please don't take my picture

Be sure to visit Watermark for this weekend's Carnival of the Cats, board the Friday Ark over at the Modulator, and KayakSoup's Halloween Weekend Cat Blog.

Mr. Blur yawning in his bed

Here is a picture of Blur, yawning in his bed. It's been a while since he's been there, but he managed to knock it down from atop the two cat carriers.

Be sure to visit the Friday Ark #95, and the Carnival of the Cats hosted over at For the Junta this week for more feline fun!

Blur with a bottle of wine

This is Blur last night, looking at the bottle of 1998 Grand Vin from Argentina. I'd put the bottle there for a reference of size, but I think Blur wants some.

Messy eater

I decided to give the boys some catnip today.

Sharing some catnip

Pip, being the aggressor, took over the scratching post, and therefore the catnip tray at the top. As he voraciously almost obscenely tore through it, I noticed that he was rubbing his cheeks in it, and probably would have rolled around in it if I had given him enough. He began to push the scratching post away, and then when he'd had enough, rolled in all the catnip that fell on the floor.

This is one of the funniest pictures I have of Pip.

Look at Pip Stretch

Here's Pip on the floor in the kitchen this morning. He's doing a big stretch (and you can see his white crotch area). He's gotten pretty big and I think he's even outgrown his siblings.

Also, be sure to check out the Carnival of the Cats and the Friday Ark.

My expert hunters

This week has been a little odd. My hunters have been hunting and gathering. First, this weekend, Pip found this enormous roach and he did something with it. I've seen one other roach about this size, but Blur took care of that (that was pre-pip).

It looks like Blur has moved on to larger prey. Thing is, I didn't know we had a mouse. Didn't see and signs, droppings, nothing, and didn't ever hear the thing. But, I woke up in the morning, and there he was. A gift from Blurby.

I can't wait to see what kind of gifts and sacrifices I have when I get back from Baton Rouge.

Please help animals in the Gulf

We've all heard about Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita that is barreling down on Galveston, TX at this moment. There were many people that would not leave their homes because FEMA would not let them take their pets during rescue efforts. This is a tragedy on many levels.

Losing a pet is very depressing. Losing a pet because you cannot take your pet with you is something completely different. Usually, when one loses a pet, there is closure. When you have to abandon it, then you just don't know.

Finally, there is legislation proposed by Congressman Tom Lantos (D-CA) and co-sponsors Christopher Shays (R-CT), Don Young (R-AK) and James Oberstar (D-MN) and Barney Frank (D-MA) to ensure that in the future, people will not be required to abandon their pets. According to reports, the bill will require local and state agencies to submit plans for how they will accomodate pets during emergencies in order to receive FEMA funding.

If you haven't already, please donate to the Humane Society of the United States to help pets and animals. As of September 20th, 2005, they have rescued 6,031 animals and reunited 400 with their owners.

Rescued pets are being listed at http://www.petfinder.org

Blur and a stray

Since I took a picture of Pip last week, it's Blur's turn. Here's a great picture of him and the stray Mini-blur in one of Blur's favorite spots.

Here's another great picture of Mr. Blurby Pants.

Friday Cat Play and Guard

This little black cat is hyper! He plays with my toys, eats my food, chases me around and I've tried to teach him that this is my house. So therefore, I'm guarding the upstairs and preventing him from coming up here. This is my last stand.

Here is a picture of Blur taking a swipe at Pip on my bed. I think Pip is slowly realizing that he's not numero uno in my house. He's not even numero dos. He's the wee numero lasto. But, he's still cute and playful.

Pip and Blur

So my daddy brought home this little furball a few weeks ago. He didn't talk much, and I thought he was dead, but then he went to the vet (I hate car rides) and now this little black furball (my dad calls him Pip) has been running around the house a little bit. He chases me around, and meows all the time. Anyway, here is a picture of the little bugger looking out MY window, and I'm about to jump down off the ledge. He is kinda cute though don't you think?

What do I do?

So normally, on Fridays, I'll Friday Cat Blog about Blur. However, about 5 minutes ago, my neighbor nearly beat my door down. He knows that I have a cat, and this kitty had been coming around my house. However, the gray kitty was pregnant a few months ago, and now there are stray kittens roaming around.

Anyway, back to my neighbor. I finally get the door, and he hands me a tiny tiny kitten (seen below). I have to take him (or her, I haven't checked) to the shelter tomorrow. I think it may be the runt of the litter, and I don't know what I'd do if this kitten died in my house. So, if you know of someone in the DC metro area that wants a runt, or if you have suggestions for me to take care of this precious little kitten, please email me. I'll throw in a pet carrier and some food, some litter, and a few toys. I'm not going to name it, since if I name it, I'd feel more attachment to it than I already do. Please please, help.

Here is another picture of the kitten drinking out of a tiny bowl. That is my hand next to it. My hands are not that big. This kitten is TINY. You can see from the first picture how small it really is. That's a standard roll of toilet paper next to it.

Licking my chops

Here's a picture of me (looking like I have a cleft pallet) and my favorite catnip filled toy. The stuffed bunny. I'm a city cat, and my daddy tells me that rabbits aren't really bright red. Nor filled with catnip. I like this one just fine.

Adventures in pet care: dieting and litter

I needed to get some wet cat food this past weekend, and though that I would also pick up some more litter. Little did I know what I was getting into.

The idea has come up to put Mr. Blurby pants on a diet. He's a hefty cat, previously weighing in around 17 pounds. He is definitely a large cat in terms of sheer size, but he does have a pooch (like his dad). So, after seeing this on Nanon's list, I decided that I'm going to help Blur lose a little bit of weight while doing the same thing. I heard that by feeding one's feline better food (such as Iams or ScienceDiet), he will automatically lose weight. So, I bought him a bunch of cans of both. He's already been on Iams Weight Control dry food for a while, though it hasn't seemed to help, perhaps since I was giving him 9-Lives and other brands of wet food.

Then I decided to take a stroll around to the other cat areas of Petsmart, and found that there are "ecologically friendly" littters. I was pretty shocked, and the best part is that it's flushable! So, I really want to try Yesterday's News which is made of recycled newspaper, but the actual shape of the litter seems like it would take Blur a little while to get used to. The shape reminds me of rabbit food. So, I opted to buy him some Swheat Scoop, which is made of wheat. It's clumping, flushable, apparently naturally absorbs odors, and it looks like conventional clay litter, so it hopefully feels like it to Blur.

Maybe I'll just toilet train Blur.

Carnival of the Cats on Running Scared

Blur has gotten into this Friday Cat Blogging thing where he takes his own picture on Friday and posts onto this site. He also gets mentioned on the Carnival of the Cats and the Friday Ark. I like the Carnival of the Cats shout-out:

At the blog 7610, we find a cat battling the ages old problem of liverbreath. I can relate, buddy.

Carnival of the Cats #56 is up on Watermark. Mr. Blur is featured on there, (look for 7610 presents Friday Cat Blogging). I got to it a bit late because I've had a pretty busy weekend.

I played a round of golf with some friends at Generals Ridge in Manassas, VA, where my friend Z got a hold in one on a par 3, 184 yard hole. Congrats Z. I'm jealous.
