So Much for an Easy Week

So, here I am thinking I was going to have an easy week. Yeah right. Supposed to meet up with some one on Wednesday, cancelled. Thursday... cancelled. Got to have a drink on Friday, oh yeah, no I didn't. Yeah I did. Carpool. Then Saturday, I got to work at 8 AM. I'm still here. Werd.

NYC Wireless Network

The NYC government is looking for vendors that can blanket the entire city with wireless access for it's public safety workers. They're ideal network would be able to handle seamless wireless communication at speeds up to 70 mph.

At a cost of between $500M to $1B, New York's Wi-Fi network proposal calls for support for communications at 2Mb/sec for up to 10,000 concurrent users. The network is intended for use by first responders, including firefighters, police, and EMTs.

Foil Hat Types Rejoice and Start Wallpapering!

BAE Systems in the UK has produced a "wallpaper" that blocks electronic eavesdropping via Wi-Fi networks. It does however allow radio and mobile phone traffic to pass through. The material that BAE Systems used is on stealth bombers and fighter jets.

Low Key Weekend

Here I am at the office at 10:20 in the morning on Sunday. I was here at 8:30 yesterday, but it's still a low key weekend. I've been doing some relatively mindless work, and relaxing at the same time. Didn't really do anything yesterday except watch the Lord of The Rings - Return of the King. Other than that, I uploaded a bunch of pictures, put them in order, and created a random picutures album. Among those pics are things like this:

Otherwise, I think I'm not going to do much today. I think I may do some shopping, return the Motorola V600 that I bought a few weeks ago. My main problem with it is that when the volume is up all the way for the phone, I still can't hear anything. Especially if there is any ambient noise on my side. Plus it's Motorola, which I think of as the Microsoft of consumer telecom hardware.

This is the new phone I want.

I guess I should do some work now.

Abu Ghraid Prisoner in Boston

There's a Boston College student named Joe Previtera. On May 26, 2004, he and four friends were protesting in front of the Armed Forces Recruitment Center in Boston. Mr. Previtera dressed up as an Abu Ghraid prisoner, black shawl, pointed black hood, wires hanging from his fingers and all. All five were arrested, and Mr. Previtera was charged with disturbing the peace, false report of location of explosives and a hoax device. The first offense is a misdemeanor, the latter two, felonies.

Apparently, the wires from his fingers were stuck into the milk crate that he was standing on, and the police assumed it was a bomb. So they charged him with basically a bomb threat.

Castle in the Sky in Colorado!

So, here's an interesting article about some dude (Jim Bishop) that has been building a castle in Colorado for oh, about the past 34 years. Single-handedly. Now that's some passion.
